Can I ask the Court to Reconsider an Order it issued?

If a Court renders a decision that fails to consider the evidence provided or is based on an incorrect interpretation of the law, litigants may file for reconsideration within twenty days of the entry of the Court’s Final Order.  In other words, the twenty-day timeline does not apply to interim Orders.  If new information becomes available that was not considered in the Court’s initial decision, you also may want to consider filing for reconsideration.  Applications for reconsideration should be approached with caution, as courts are unlikely to grant reconsideration in most circumstances.  New Jersey’s law is clear that reconsideration applications are not an opportunity to re-argue a position that has already been heard for the sole purpose of taking a proverbial second bite of the apple.
